The best defense against a fire is to prevent a fire from starting in the first place.
In this brief video, retired LA County Fire Captain, Ralph Ortiz, briefly introduces the importance of fire safety inspections of local structures to prevent fires and to plan for service calls in the future, should they ever be necessary.
Local fire departments conduct fire prevention inspections as part of their duties. These inspections are intended to check buildings for issues that could threaten the life safety of the occupants, and include inspections of common areas, stairways, utility rooms, storage rooms and the exterior of the building. A fire safety inspection also ensure that equipment, such as smoke alarms and fire extinguishers, are located in the right places in the house or building.
Fire safety inspections are a routine part of fire jurisdiction responsibilities.
